About this tool
The JPG to PNG Converter takes a JPG or JPEG file and re-saves it in PNG format, which uses lossless compression and is generally preferred for graphics, logos, screenshots, and images you plan to edit further, since it avoids introducing any additional compression artifacts on top of whatever the original JPEG already had. This is useful when a tool or platform specifically requires a PNG upload, or when you want a format better suited for transparency editing in image software later on. Note that converting a JPG to PNG cannot remove compression artifacts that are already baked into the original JPEG, nor does it add transparency automatically — it simply re-encodes the existing pixel data losslessly from that point forward. Conversion runs entirely in your browser using Canvas, so your photo is never uploaded anywhere.

Tips & common mistakes
- •Converting JPG to PNG will usually increase file size, not decrease it, since PNG's lossless encoding stores more data than JPEG's lossy compression — this is expected, not an error.
- •This conversion can't "undo" JPEG compression artifacts that are already present in the source photo; it only prevents adding new ones going forward.
- •If your goal is a transparent background, converting JPG to PNG alone won't add transparency — you'll need image editing software to remove the background after converting.
- •For photos you intend to edit repeatedly, convert to PNG before the first edit rather than after several rounds of JPEG re-saves, to avoid compounding earlier compression loss.
Lossless PNG Encoding
The browser renders the JPEG's pixel data onto an HTML5 Canvas and exports it as a standard PNG bitstream.
