About this tool
Many government exam and admission portals — including UPSC, SSC, state PSC boards, and various university applications — enforce a strict 20KB (or smaller) limit for photo and signature uploads, often rejecting files that are even slightly over. This tool is pre-configured specifically for that use case: upload your passport-style photo, scanned signature, or thumb impression, and it automatically compresses the file to 20KB or less while trying to keep facial and text details as legible as possible. Because these portals often reject files based on exact byte size rather than a rounded number, the tool targets comfortably under the 20,480-byte (20KB) ceiling rather than cutting it exactly at the limit. Processing happens entirely in your browser, so sensitive ID photos and signatures are never uploaded anywhere.
How to use
- 1
Upload Photo or Signature
Select or drag your photo or signature scan into the upload area.
- 2
Let It Compress Automatically
The tool targets a file size comfortably under 20KB while preserving clarity.
- 3
Download and Verify
Check the shown file size, then download the portal-ready image.

Tips & common mistakes
- •Scan or photograph your signature on a plain white background first — busy backgrounds compress worse and leave less byte budget for the signature itself.
- •If a portal specifically asks for dimensions too (e.g., 200×230 px), check their requirement separately, since this tool optimizes for file size, not a fixed pixel size.
- •Save the output with a simple file name before uploading — some older portals reject file names with spaces or special characters.
- •If your original signature scan is very large (several MB), expect noticeable downscaling to reach 20KB; a tighter, pre-cropped scan compresses more gracefully.
Binary Search & Progressive Downscaling for 20KB
The same binary-search and downscaling engine as the general KB reducer, with the target pre-set to 20KB.
TargetBytes = 20 × 1024 = 20,480 bytes- •Binary search tests JPEG quality values to find the highest quality under 20,480 bytes
- •If quality alone can't reach the target, dimensions are scaled down proportionally until it does
