About this tool
This Gas Trip Calculator turns a drive into fuel used and a cost. Pick a country and the units change with it. The United States uses miles and US gallons. The United Kingdom uses miles and litres, with miles per UK gallon. Canada, Australia, Germany, and France use kilometres and litres per 100 km. Pakistan, India, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia use kilometres and kilometres per litre. You type the price on the pump. The starting number is only an example, not a live fuel price. One way uses the distance once. Round trip doubles it. Several trips multiply that distance, which fits a commute. Tolls are not included. The math runs in your browser.
How to use
- 1
Choose the country
The distance and fuel units change with the country. The price field fills an example you should replace.
- 2
Enter the distance and economy
Use miles and mpg where the country does, or kilometres and the litre figure where it does.
- 3
Type the pump price
Use the price on the sign. Turn on round trip if you are coming back, and raise the trip count for a commute.
Features
- Country switch for miles and gallons, or kilometres and litres
- US gallons, UK gallons, litres per 100 km, and kilometres per litre
- One way or round trip, and a repeat count for a commute
- You type the pump price in local currency
- Runs in the browser — the trip is not uploaded
Limitations
- •Fuel only. Tolls, parking, tires, and maintenance are not included.
- •The starting price is an example. It is not today’s pump price.
- •Only the listed countries are included, each with that country’s usual units.
Tips & common mistakes
- •250 miles at 30 mpg and $3.50 a US gallon is $29.17 one way.
- •100 kilometres at 15 km per litre and Rs 250 a litre is Rs 1,666.67. Replace 250 with the price on your pump.
- •A UK gallon is 4.546 litres, so UK mpg is not the same as US mpg.
- •Canada and Europe ask for litres per 100 km. A lower number there means the car uses less fuel.
How trip fuel cost is calculated
Distance is doubled for a round trip, then multiplied by the number of trips. Volume depends on the country’s unit, and cost is that volume times the price you type.
US: gallons = miles ÷ mpg. Kilometres per litre: litres = km ÷ km/L. Litres per 100 km: litres = km × (L/100 km) ÷ 100.- •UK mpg is converted with 4.546 litres per UK gallon, then multiplied by the price per litre
- •Round trip uses twice the distance you typed
- •The currency symbol follows the country. The amount is still the price you entered
